The Fat Behind Your Emotions

Hey there it's Trainer J again! Today’s blog post is influenced by my constant interaction with clients who let their emotions take control over their health. What do I mean by that? I’m glad you asked. In a nut shell, it simply means that your emotions pretty much determine every action that you make throughout a typical day. Everything that you do or don’t is always based on how you feel emotionally.

Maybe you’re happy about a bonus from your job and because of that, you decide to go to the mall to splurge on some new clothes. Or maybe you’re depressed about losing your job and because of that, you decide to just sit in the house and eat ice cream, watch tv and not work out for 2 weeks straight. Or maybe just maybe you’re the only happy person in America with no stress what so ever 365 days a year; yeah right!

Before you embark on any journey, go to work, eat something you know you shouldn’t have, attend an event or take a stroll to the grocery store, how you feel emotionally has the greatest influence on that act and thus, determines if that act actually happens or not. If you think otherwise, then tell me the last time you made a decision to do something. Next, ask yourself why did you do it and how you felt emotionally at that time? Now ask yourself, did you make that decision or was it something deeper into your subconscious mind (your emotions) that tricked you into making that decision but camouflaged it in a way that made you think you actually made the decision in the first place? See where I’m going with this? Great!

We all have those days when we wake up telling ourselves what we know we’re going to do that day. And you may leave the house with full intentions on doing just that but then what happens? You end up getting some bad news; you get mad at your best friend over something stupid, or you just may have had a long stressful day at work. Now that happy go lucky attitude has changed to grumpy and gloomy. So what do you do? That’s right, nothing productive! You sit there on the couch, grab an unhealthy snack or call your other best friend to tell them about your recent array of bad events instead of STICKING TO THE PLAN that you had solidified just 8 hours ago.

Too many times we let our negative emotions dictate our next move and thus end up creating a domino effect which affects our health over time. A bad habit leads to more bad habits which in time leads to poor health and illness. This is why people that stress a lot end up getting ulcers in addition to a plethora of other ailments that come along with bad stress. Stress exists because of negative emotions which then creates acid build up similar to the way unhealthy foods do when we digest them. And as a defense mechanism, your body then creates fat cells to store the excess acid buildup from getting into your blood stream.
As you continue to succumb to negative emotions which lead to distress which then leads to unhealthy eating habits and lack of exercise; your body continues to try to protect itself by continuing to do what? That’s right; create more and more fat cells. Now after years and years of this unhealthy cycle, you wake up one day looking in the mirror asking yourself; how did I get fat? Well now you know the answer. So the question is; what are you going to do about it?

If you know you need to workout then workout. If you know you shouldn't eat this or that, then don't. It's just that simple. Some of you probably manage big corporations and tell hundreds of people what to do on a daily basis. But when it comes to self control and telling yourself what to do; you suck at it! The point is, negative emotions will always be around but they can't exist without your permission. Don't let a few bad days create a lifestyle of unhealthy habits. It's not worth it...

Control your emotions, control your stress, and take control of your health.
