Good afternoon all,
I have had several questions regarding this topic so I felt the need to write a brief post. Let's just get to the point. Saggy skin in reference to rapid weight loss simply happens because the body has lost the weight so rapidly that the skin has not had a chance to adjust. The skin is basically shocked and is wondering what in the world is going on. Your skin is very elastic and can adapt to great lengths as well as adjust itself back to shorter lengths if you give it time. So how do you prevent this you ask?
1. Always include a consistent exercise program that includes both cardiovascular exercise and resistance training. This allows for you to build lean muscle mass to help fill voids where your fat used to be. Building lean muscle will also help to pull the skin and help tighten it up so that it doesn't sag.
2. Try to promote healthy weight loss instead of shedding as much weight as possible in the shortest amount of time. Healthy weight loss is typically 1-2 lbs per week and you can do a little more as long as your resistance training is up to par with your weight loss. You didn't gain the weight in one day so don't try to lose it all in one day either. Patience!
3. Lastly, take care of your skin by drinking lots of water to help flush toxins out of the body so that your skin and rejuvenate and create healthy new skin cells that will help influence healthy skin adjustments to go along with your weight loss.
Most importantly, be positive throughout your journey. Lack of stress and frustration with yourself can and will take you a long way.
